Each year the Columbian Lawyers Association, First Judicial Department (”CLA”), confers four scholarship awards to needy law students of some Italian heritage presently attending law schools within the City of New York and the Counties of Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester. Consequently, the awards require that the applicant has been admitted and started his/her studies. The award consists of $2500.00 dollars paid for each year the student attends law school, for a maximum of three years.

Scholarship recipients will receive their award by our forwarding their award to their school bursar to credit their account. Simultaneously therewith, the student will be notified of his/her selection.

Applications for awards must be submitted by March 15th of the shool year in which the award is granted. (e.g., For the 2012/2013 school year the applications must be submitted by March 15th, 2013.) The awards for each school year will be paid on or about the time of our Rapallo Award Luncheon, which is usually held sometime in April of each year. We expect recipients to attend the luncheon. In order for a scholarship recipient to continue receiving their award after the first year it is awarded, the recipient must confirm in writing to the Chairman on or before March 15th that he/she is still enrolled in law school.

In addition, submit a letter or essay indicating the source of your Italian heritage; the reason for the need of assistance; and a brief statement as to your accomplishments, goals and/or aspirations. In support of your application indicate any special circumstances which may have a bearing on your application or special need of funds.

All applications and materials sent in connection therewith will become the property of the CLA and will be strictly confidential.
